Choice architecture

A deliberately small note — the kind an evergreen note should be. It exists here mostly to show a three-column deep stack.

Every choice is presented some way, and the presentation is never neutral. Which option is the default, what order the options come in, how many there are, what is emphasised — all of it nudges the outcome. Choice architecture is just taking responsibility for that presentation instead of leaving it to accident.

The point that’s easy to miss: there is no “no design” option. A form with no default still has a design; it has just handed the decision to inertia. So the question is never whether to shape the choice, only whether to do it thoughtfully and in the chooser’s interest.
